Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) monitoring this summer
May 25, 2018
Dear ,
Steve Vandermeer, Aquatic Science Operations Specialist from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) sent an email to the MPOA to notify us that they will be conducting the "Broadscale Monitoring (BsM) Program" on Mazinaw Lake this summer.
The MNR will be conducting netting operations for approx. 5-7 days on our lake. Nets are checked and moved daily to a new location. They are assessing 145 lakes this summer and notices will be posted at various locations including the public boat launch and retail stores in the area during the netting operations. While the lake is being monitored, all nets will be clearly marked with orange MNRF bouys. They are asking the public to please not touch or lift the nets or buoys and avoid recreational activities between and around the buoys.
They are collecting information on fish species, taking water samples, and checking for invasive species. This information will be used by biologists to evaluate the health of fish populations.
If you have any questions regarding the above, please contact Steve Vandermeer at 705 324-5851 (steve.vandermeer@ontario.ca). The letter they wrote is posted on our website.
