2 2018 Corn roast note to members

The MPOA are going ahead with the corn roast / pot luck dinner on August 25th from 3:00-6:00 as we have had a good response from our members.   If you already indicated you cannot attend on this date, please just delete this email and continue enjoying your summer, thanks.  If you are interested, please read on.

Kip & Mairi Van Kempen have kindly offered to host this at their beautiful lake house at 1372 South Mazinaw Heights Road.  There is lots of room for us all on their grounds. It is easy to find as it is the last place on the lake side of South Mazinaw Height Road (if you hit the Bon Echo Park turn around at the end of the road, you've gone a few feet too far).  There is lots of parking on the road if you come by car; also plenty of space to anchor if  you come by boat but docking space is limited…consider “boat pooling” if possible please.   Note, if arriving by boat it is the last cottage on the hwy side,  south of park  -- there is a large yellow water trampoline anchored just off the  dock.

The event will be "Rain or Shine" as we have a large tent to enjoy if it rains.

Please note that our insurance covers events such as this as long as there is no alcohol or water sports so these will be off limits.  This is a chance to socialize and meet some other people on our beautiful lake for a few hours.

The MPOA will either be supplying or subsidizing hamburgers, hot dogs, and corn, depending on the final number of attendees and final costs.  We have approached the local butcher to see if they might be interested in doing the meat, if not, we will bring in some BBQs.

For the pot luck, we are asking that each family bring one dish, enough to feed 5-6 people (plus a serving spoon). We have decided not to organize who is bringing what, but rather take our chances on what sides everyone brings. We are hoping for a variety of side dishes (e.g. potatoe salad; macaroni salad; rice salad, quinoa salad, green salad, Greek salad, Caesar salad, and of course, desserts!

Here are other things for you to bring:

  • your own drinks and if you want, a cooler with ice to store them in (we will be supplying some bottles of water until they are gone)
  • your own folding chair
  • we are trying to 'go green' so please bring your own cup for your drinks if applicable & a fork (now that's new right?  BYOF! ...we will buy some plastic forks but wouldn't it be nice if we didn't need to use them) ;)
  • some loonies and toonies, or bills if you want more burgers, hot dogs than your quota

We will be asking for an RSVP by August 18th, confirming your attendance and the final number of people in your party so please watch for an email closer to the date.  We are very excited to see you there!

Oh, and if you have not yet paid your membership dues for this year, please do this at Smarts Marina, Brown's Campground, or by PayPal (instructions are on the lakemazinaw.ca website/membership tab).  While you can pay at the gate on the day of the event as well, Fran is asking that you try to pay in advance so she can enjoy the dinner and socializing too (dues were due July 1st).  Many thanks!
